In a strategic move to boost its international aviation network, Thailand is forging new alliances and upgrading its regional airport systems. Recent collaborations with Vietnam Airlines and flydubai are central to this initiative, aiming to enhance connectivity and support the country’s burgeoning tourism sector.
Vietnam Airlines has inaugurated a new flight route from Ho Chi Minh City to Phuket as of July 2. This service, operating four times a week, is expected to accommodate an annual capacity of approximately 39,500 seats. This development seeks to cater to the increasing travel demand from Vietnam, a nation that contributed over 300,000 visitors to Thailand in the first half of the year alone.
Meanwhile, flydubai has launched a daily flight service from Dubai to Bangkok starting July 1. The airline has plans to increase this frequency to two flights per day beginning September 15, thereby enhancing the connectivity between the United Arab Emirates and Thailand.
In an effort to bolster air traffic management and operational efficiency, Thailand is also set to introduce the Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) at its regional airports. This system is designed to improve access to secondary cities, with initial implementation scheduled for Phrae and Phetchabun airports by 2028. The possibility of expanding AFIS to other regional airports remains under consideration.
These developments highlight Thailand’s commitment to expanding its role as a key aviation hub in Southeast Asia, while simultaneously supporting its robust tourism industry through improved international and regional connectivity.
