The gripping survival thriller “Whalefall,” featuring Austin Abrams, has unveiled its highly anticipated trailer. Adapted from Daniel Kraus’ celebrated novel, the film presents a harrowing tale of endurance as it follows a young man who becomes ensnared inside a colossal sperm whale, racing against time with limited oxygen to sustain him.
Set to hit Indian theaters on October 16, “Whalefall” is a collaborative production by 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment. Austin Abrams takes on the role of Jay Gardiner, a diver grappling with the recent loss of his father, portrayed by Josh Brolin. In a quest to find his father’s remains, Jay embarks on a dive off the Central Coast of California, only to find himself swallowed whole by a giant sperm whale, sparking an intense fight for survival.
Inside the belly of the beast, Jay has approximately an hour’s worth of oxygen, compelling him to tap into his instincts and the paternal teachings passed down by his father in a desperate bid to escape. The film weaves together elements of underwater adventure and claustrophobic survival, underscored by the poignant exploration of Jay’s relationship with his late father.
The movie is helmed by director Brian Duffield, who also co-wrote the screenplay with author Daniel Kraus. The production involved constructing a whale set on a sound stage in Studio City, California, where filming took place over the summer. “Whalefall” boasts a stellar cast including Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd, alongside Abrams and Brolin.
