The Zayed Sustainability Prize, a prestigious initiative from the United Arab Emirates, has set a new record by receiving 10,233 submissions from 177 countries for its 2027 awards cycle. This marks a significant 32% increase compared to the previous year. The prize is dedicated to honoring innovative projects that tackle critical global challenges in areas such as climate action, health, food, energy, water, and education through global high schools.

Each winner in the categories of climate, health, food, energy, and water will be awarded $1 million, while finalists in these categories will receive $150,000. Additionally, six victorious high schools will each be granted $150,000, with their finalists receiving $25,000. This substantial prize structure underscores the prize’s commitment to fostering impactful solutions worldwide.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Director General of the prize, highlighted that the record-breaking participation underscores a growing global appetite for practical and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing lives. Notably, over two-thirds of the applications hailed from developing and emerging economies, with the climate action category attracting the highest number of entries, reflecting the pressing nature of environmental concerns globally.

The anticipation for the announcement of the finalists is set for September, followed by the awards ceremony on January 12, 2027, where the winners will be celebrated. This timeline provides an opportunity for the projects to gain visibility and recognition, potentially inspiring others to pursue sustainable innovations in their respective fields.
