The Ministry of Health and Prevention in the United Arab Emirates has assured the public that there are no cases of Ebola within the country. This statement comes after a traveler, who passed through the UAE, was diagnosed with the virus upon reaching Uganda. The individual in question is a Congolese national who journeyed through the UAE en route to Uganda, where the Ebola infection was confirmed several days following their arrival.
Authorities clarified that during the transit through the UAE, the traveler did not visit any healthcare facilities. In response to the situation, the ministry is collaborating closely with the World Health Organization. They have implemented several precautionary measures, such as conducting risk assessments, tracing contacts, and enhancing health surveillance, all in accordance with international protocols.
Health officials highlighted that the current outbreak of Ebola is primarily concentrated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. Despite the outbreak, the World Health Organization has assessed the global public health risk as low. Nonetheless, the UAE has issued advisories for its citizens and residents to avoid unnecessary travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan while staying informed of the situation.
Ebola is a severe viral disease known for its transmission through direct contact with the bodily fluids of those infected. The symptoms commonly include fever, fatigue, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea, and in severe cases, it can escalate to organ failure and internal bleeding.
