Advanced Tech Cuts Sharjah-Oman Cargo Transit to Just 35 Days

by admin477351

Sharjah has unveiled a new logistics corridor with Oman, dramatically slashing cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This strategic move aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce transportation expenses, and fortify trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and broader regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with Oman’s key ports, such as Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, via the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. As operations evolve, authorities anticipate even further decreases in transit times.

In a bid to promote the use of this corridor, Sharjah has introduced toll exemptions for cargo trucks navigating approved routes from Oman. Additionally, the initiative offers expedited customs clearance, streamlined cargo movement, and the flexibility for businesses to finalize customs procedures at inland container terminals rather than at the border. Officials project that logistics costs could see a reduction of around 15%, subject to the type of cargo and transportation needs, providing particular advantages to manufacturers by speeding up the transport of raw materials and finished goods.

This development aligns with Sharjah’s strategy to bolster its standing as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. The emirate, home to more than 3,000 factories that contribute approximately a quarter of its GDP, anticipates that the enhanced trade route will augment exports and draw international investors eager to tap into markets in Africa, India, and Asia.

Operational since May 14, the corridor now supports cargo movement in both directions, underpinned by coordinated customs protocols, real-time data exchanges, and dedicated fast-track lanes for shipments. This integrated approach not only accelerates the flow of goods but also underscores Sharjah’s commitment to advancing its economic infrastructure and regional trade influence.
