Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has arrived in Ottawa for an official visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada. This visit seeks to expand strategic cooperation in sectors crucial for both nations, including energy, mining, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and ports.
During his stay, Sheikh Khaled is scheduled to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss avenues for deepening economic ties and boosting investments. The discussions are expected to build on the strong foundation of the partnership between the two countries, emphasizing sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
Accompanying Sheikh Khaled is a senior UAE delegation that includes key ministers such as Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Mohamed Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment. Their presence underscores the UAE’s commitment to advancing cooperation in critical sectors.
The visit follows the recent signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Canada in July 2026, which aims to lower trade barriers and improve market access for goods, services, and investments. This agreement is expected to create new opportunities for businesses in both countries and further solidify their economic alliance.
The UAE is currently Canada’s largest export market in the Middle East, playing a significant role in Canada’s regional trade strategy. Both nations are keen to expand commercial opportunities, attract investment, and strengthen collaboration in advanced technologies and emerging industries.
Sheikh Khaled’s visit to Canada is part of a broader international engagement strategy, following his recent official trip to Greece, where similar discussions on strengthening bilateral relations took place. The UAE announced a €15 billion investment in Greece as part of their joint initiative, reflecting the UAE’s ongoing efforts to develop strategic partnerships and deepen economic cooperation globally.
