In a significant diplomatic engagement, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin on Thursday as part of his state visit to Germany. The discussions between the two leaders centered on reinforcing the long-standing relationship between the United Arab Emirates and Germany, which has flourished over the past five decades and gained momentum in recent years through a strategic partnership.
A key focus of their talks was the pursuit of enduring peace in the Middle East, alongside efforts to enhance regional security and stability. Sheikh Mohamed underscored the shared dedication of both nations to deepen their collaborative efforts and advance common interests. His visit included an official welcome ceremony at Villa Borsig, where he met with senior German officials and signed the guestbook. Additionally, he visited the Bundestag and paid respects at the Neue Wache war memorial.
Sheikh Mohamed’s itinerary also includes a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where they are set to explore further cooperation, particularly in economic and development sectors. Anticipated agreements during this visit are expected to cover pivotal areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, and investment, underscoring the growing economic ties between the two countries.
The diplomatic relationship between the UAE and Germany was formally established in 1972, with a strategic partnership being signed in 2004. Highlighting the economic significance of their relationship, bilateral trade surpassed $15.5 billion in 2025. The current visit by Sheikh Mohamed marks the first state visit to Germany by a UAE president, representing a notable milestone in the evolving partnership between the two nations.
