Elon Musk has voiced disappointment with President Trump’s flagship tax and spending bill, warning that it could wipe out years of cost-cutting reforms achieved by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk, who led DOGE until recently, said the bill “increases the budget deficit” and “undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing”.
The bill, which narrowly passed the House, extends tax cuts, increases defense spending, and slashes social programs. Critics, including Musk, warn it could add over $3 trillion to the deficit, despite claims it will boost economic growth.
Musk’s comments highlight growing divisions within the Republican Party over fiscal policy and government spending priorities.
